2.(A) Dinner at a friend's house (Listen & Read)

Yesterday, a friend of mine, Tom, invited me to have dinner in his house. When I walked into the sitting-room there was a man sitting there. He got up and introduced himself: "My name's Davis, James Davis. I'm Tom's friend. He invited me to dinner, too. Then he told me about himself. He was a photographer. He was 50 years old and he was divorced. His ex-wife was terrible. She said things like: "You mustn't smoke in the house. You mustn't play the radio or make a noise. You must be home by eight o'clock in the evening"

Then, Tom came in and said: "Oh, I'm sorry. Have you introduced yourself to James?" "Yes, We've introduced ourselves", I answered.

"Shall I make you a cup of coffee?" Tom asked.

"You needn't bother about me", answered James. "I've already had one".

"I'll have one, Tom, if you don't mind". I said

"Oh! Of course not. And will you close the window, please?" He asked me. "It's getting cold, I'm afraid".

Then we all sat down and started to talk.

I enjoyed the evening very much.
