unit 2

Andrea: So did you have a fantastic summer?
Manuel: Yeah, although I didn't learn much English. I stayed with a family and their daughter who spoke Spanish. It would've been better if I'd stayed with another family that only spoke English.
Andrea: But you wouldn't have met Stacy.
Manuel: Yes, you're right. How about you? How did you spend your summer?
Andrea: A lousy and boring one really. If I'd got a good job, I would've saved enough money. But I didn't. I only had sufficient funds to go to Benidorm. If I'd had more money, I would've gone to Singapore and maybe tour Asia. Anyway, did anything extraordinary happen?
Manuel: Yeah, on my fifth day, Stacy and I decided to walk by a river. There was a terrible summer storm and the river flooded. We turned back and only just got back safely. It was really terrifying.
Andrea: What would've happened if you'd continued?
Manuel: Well, we would've been dead by now. Some people were drowned. I don't like thinking about it. So, what was your Benidorm like?
Andrea: Well, we were not very lucky with the weather. If it'd been better, we would've  been able to do more outdoor activities. We spent most of our time in the hotel, playing cards!
