Oir WMA 5. (A) Barry got fired (Listen & Read)

Barry Anderson worked in a stock exchange market in London and lived with his dog, Lucky. If his dog Lucky hadn't started barking in the middle of the night, Barry wouldn't have woken up and consequently he wouldn't have overslept in the morning. By the time he was able to fall asleep again it was three o'clock so when he woke up it was nine o'clock in the morning. He got dressed quickly. But if he hadn't dressed so quickly he wouldn't have been able to get to the tube station in time for his train. As it was very late when he got there, he saw a train and jumped on it without checking the destination and it took him the opposite direction! He got off at the next station and didn't get to Piccadilly Circus until 10.25. If he had checked the destination, he wouldn't have gone the opposite way and he wouldn't have arrived at Piccadilly Circus so late. He hailed a cab but it got stranded in a traffic jam and it took him 40 more minutes to get to his office. It wouldn't have taken the taxi so long to take him to his office if it hadn't got stranded in the traffic jam. When he arrived at his office he realised he had dropped his wallet in the cab and had to borrow 30 pounds from his superior, who was very upset. He wouldn't have had to borrow any money from his superior if he hadn't dropped his wallet in the cab. An hour later he had lost 2 million pounds on the currency market. His boss came to speak to him and found him sleeping at his desk. Of course, Barry was fired. Though the 2 million pounds loss was important for the company, his boss would not have fired him if he hadn't found him sleeping at his desk.

When you think you have practised enough, go on to the next activity.
